My top 5 podcast picks
March 12, 2007
- Commonwealth Club Radio Program: Lecture series in San Francisco with top notch speakers in every imaginable field. Listening to William Perry’s penetrating knowledge of the U.S.’s witless policies in Iraq, Anthony Bourdain’s passion for food, and Deepak Chopra’s philosophy are a well-spent 3 hours on your commute.
- Entrepreneurial Thought Leaders: Justen told me about this podcast from Stanford University featuring successful entrepreneurs and CEOs.
- Managing the Gray: Of the 4 or 5 podcasts about marketing for marketers that I’ve listened to, Managing the Gray manages to be the least annoying and actually has one or two nuggets of good ideas tucked into most shows. And the host’s voice was made for broadcasting!
- TEDTalks: The only video podcast in the bunch, it has short segments featuring good speakers and ideas.
- This American Life: An incredibly rich tapestry of real stories about everything. Genius editors really know how to weave bits and pieces together to create great tales.

I won’t ask what other shows you listened to in order to make the comment you did about mine, but I’m glad you are enjoying the show.
Least annoying was probably too harsh… I enjoy your show. I find many of the other marketing podcasts to be over-produced; they have lost that sense of authenticity. Style beats substance. One exception is Across the Sound, which is very authentic. It’s fine if you don’t mind a 60-80 minute podcast, of which often the first 20 minutes is blather. Jaffrey lost me on the episode where he sang karaoke, an indulgence that seemed like a joke on listeners to see if they would still like him. I didn’t.
